Sensory Processing Disorder

I would like to share this with anyone who is willing to watch. This disorder is not widely known, but affects many children and can be helped with proper detection and treatment. Left undetected and untreated it can lead a child to a path of self destruction. This is a central nervous system issue, that manifests itself in behaviors that seem to indicate the child is a troublemaker or a problem child. Once you have lived it, you can see clearly that the child is not a problem child, but is trying to resolve a constant internal conflict and learn to live in an environment that is confusing and unfriendly. Thanks for taking the time to watch.

I am a second degree candidate, studying Secondary Education-Mathematics. This is my first semester back to school in 9 years. When I started this program I had one young child, and during the program our second child came along. Due to his medical concerns I had to choose to leave the program and be home for him. With my child now old enough to be more self sufficient, I am now back at RIC to finish what I started and become fully certified in both Middle and High School. This week has felt like a month to me, it's been a long time since I sat on the other side of the desk and it was slow going to get up and running again. I struggled to get back into the rhythm, but found fast friends in classmates who were willing to share their knowledge ( and email addresses!). I am really looking forward to the semester.

I am a mother of 4 children ages 3,7,10 and 13, two girls and two boys. I also work as a musician part time. With a family, school, and part time work there really isn't much room for anything else! We are a close family, and do a lot of camping with our friends and their families. I love the simplicity of camping, although we do it in a travel trailer, I'm not that rustic!
